Hello Eisenhower Family,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! My name is Mrs. Gilleece and I will be your child’s Kindergarten Teacher. I know things look a bit different this year, but I am ready and eager to meet and begin working with your child! As you know, we will engage in remote learning to begin our school year.

Each day we will begin our learning with a morning meeting.  During our morning meeting, we will greet one another, take attendance, and preview our day. If you have picked up the math books and other materials, please hold on to them until I ask your child to bring them to our Zoom Meeting. Please do not have your child start writing in the Fundations or Math books to assure that we all begin instruction at the same time.  Our daily Math and Literacy lessons will follow a predictable pattern each day: mini lesson, practice/work period, closing/share.

  • Mini Lesson: The mini lesson is a short instructional lesson with a narrow focus on a specific skill, strategy, or concept. During this time I will provide direct instruction to the whole class, model specific examples, and “think aloud” as I work through new information.
  • Practice/Work Period: After the mini lesson, students are given time to practice the skill or concept. This work time gives students the opportunity to practice independently. Please note that your child may be reading or working silently as part of the work period. Students will be muted during this time and may choose to turn off their video, but they should remain on Zoom so that they are ready and available when the class reconvenes for the closing.

  • Closing/Share: The final component of each lesson will involve an opportunity for students to come back together and discuss what they have worked on, discovered, created, wondered, etc. During this part of the lesson, students may have the opportunity to discuss their progress and hear from their classmates.

  • Brain Breaks: We will have scheduled breaks throughout the day and may have impromptu stretch breaks when needed.Your child should remain logged into Zoom during these brief breaks.

    How to Find Our Classroom

Each morning beginning Tuesday, September 8th, your child will log into Zoom using my classroom link:

Please help your child log in to our class Zoom Meeting. Our school day will begin at 9:00 am. All students will be muted upon entering and should have their videos turned on

Please enter your child’s first name and first initial of their last name. This is how your child’s name should be displayed at all times on Zoom.

The first week of school, I will be helping your child navigate Zoom and online learning. As a class, we will have getting to know you activities and will work on becoming comfortable with remote learning.

Important Times for You and Your Child to Know

  • 8:40 – 9:00: Classroom “opens” on Zoom. Your child should log on between these times.
  • 12:15-1:05: Lunch/Recess
  • 2:30 – 3:00: Specials
  • 3:05: School day ends
  • Brain Breaks- These will be scattered throughout the day

We have a special area each day of the week and will access those classes through Zoom as well. These links will be shared directly with your child and are included below for your information. Please be sure to keep these links (bookmarking them on your web browser is recommended) as your child will need to access them regularly.

As we move forward with this new learning format we understand that you may have some glitches with your technology, and we may have these on our end as well.  We will continue to work together to make this experience the best it can be under these unique circumstances. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have and I will do my best to answer them as soon as possible.

Please confirm that you have received this email to ensure I have your correct contact information. When you respond, please include your full name, your child's full name, and confirm this is the email you will be using to communicate with me. Thank you for your continued support during these unprecedented times.

I can’t wait to meet your child on Zoom on Tuesday, September 8 at 9:00am! Please set your child up in his/her workspace and have a piece of paper and a pencil ready for him/her to use. When we start our day, I will ask each child to introduce themselves by saying "Hi, my name is… ". If you think your child will feel uncomfortable with this, I ask that you please be nearby so that every child can be properly introduced.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Gilleece
